Because I care more about making a statement than whether you think I’m ugly. 

I’m doing my Master’s degree dissertation on beauty ideals within fashion media, a lot of what I’m researching is with regards to artificial beauty via make-up, cosmetic surgery and digital manipulation. I have created this image, titled “Artifice”, to be included in my project. 

This is not two images Photoshopped together, this is just make-up.

Make-up inspiration was both Western (fake tan, smokey eyes) and Eastern (circle lenses, white eyeliner, pink blusher) to represent artificial beauty ideals globally. The larger image was of me in a pink bikini top (right) to emphasize plastic surgery (fake breasts) and sexual imagery used in the media, contrasting with the other side (left) of me covered by a plain cardigan.
